The family of Edith Carpenter Macy Schoenborn, 98, sadly announce that she departed  peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at her home at the Hill at Whitemarsh. She was a  fascinating woman who adored and mentored a large family of nieces, nephews,  cousins and friends, both in America and in Europe. Edith was an inspiration to all,  treating people with kindness, charm and grace. Her greatest joy came from giving and  helping others. She was an avid supporter of the Catholic Church and many other  charities for animals and the disadvantaged. She was an accomplished hostess in every  country she resided and was instrumental in introducing countless people over her  lifetime. She was fluent in French, Italian and German and spoke some Spanish as well.  Edith was a passionate builder, architect, designer, and decorator. She had many  houses and apartments over the years, and made them all cozy in her inimitable style.  

Born in Manhattan, NY in 1927, she was the daughter of Valentine E. Macy, Jr. and  Lydia Bodrero Redmond. Edith grew up in New York and Santa Barbara, CA. After her  parents divorced, her mother took her to Rome when she was 13, where she lived  during WWII. Her mother then married Ranieri Bourbon del Monte. After the war, the  family returned to Santa Barbara. 

Edith then returned to Italy and met the love of her life, Friedrich Karl von Schoenborn  Buchheim. They married in Trieste in 1947. Her husband was known to friends and  family as Kadi and he was a gentleman in every sense of the word, with a calm  demeanor, a delightful sense of humor, and ever-present love for Edith. Shortly after  they were married, they decided to move to San Francisco where they lived for many  years. Summers and sometimes winters were spent in Thalgau, Austria at a lovely  house Edith renovated and decorated. 

Edith and Kadi moved back to Manhattan and Tivoli, NY in the 70’s and remained in NY until moving to the Hill at Whitemarsh in Pennsylvania in 2007.  

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her stepdaughter Camilla  Schönborn-Buchheim. She is survived by her half-brother Montino Bourbon Del Monte  and her nieces Camilla, Alexandra and Isabelle as well as many close relatives in the  Schoenborn Wiesentheid and Schoenborn Buchheim and Macy families.  

A service to celebrate her life will be held at St Philip Neri Church, Lafayette Hill, PA on June 21st at 11 am and in Thalgau, Austria on July 4th.
