Obituary of Andrew G. Carter Sr
In Loving Memory of Andrew Godfrey Carter, Sr.
May 29, 30 – March 7, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Andrew Carter, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, coach and friend. He left us at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an unyielding passion for sports, poker, the horses, and living life.
A proud Marine, Dad carried his sense of duty, honor, and integrity into every facet of his life. He dedicated many years to teaching and coaching, touching countless lives with his wisdom, patience, and humor. His love for all sports extended beyond the classroom as a talented ball player and avid golfer, where he found joy on the waves, court, field and fairway.
Known by many names—Andy, Daddio, UA, Coach, Bop, Pop—he was a man of many roles, but the most cherished were those of husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his four children, Lynn, Andy, Jim (Patricia), and Geoff (Mary), and his seven grandchildren, Matt, Ella, Erin, Maren, Lucas, Ryan, and Nolan. He was a devoted husband to Margaret and brother to John and Gordon, and a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.
When not sharing his love for sports, he was a poker enthusiast, enjoying the monthly games with his PW buddies, or placing a bet on the ponies with Wally Berkey. He and Margaret shared a passion for travel, creating beautiful memories across the globe. He loved the shore as much as the mountains. Spending many of his summers in Ocean City and Avalon NJ and skiing at the mountains in the winters.
An artist at heart, dad expressed his creativity in various ways, always eager to share his knowledge and talent. His wonderful sense of humor, boundless knowledge, and kind spirit left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. “A likeable guy” is how he was known in college.
Though he may no longer be with us, the impact of his life and love will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
