Obituary of Joseph C. Wylie

Joseph C. Wylie of Lafayette Hill, PA, passed away Feb 26, 2020. He was born in Philadelphia Jun 15,1928 to his late parents William and Julia (nee Settle) Wylie. Joe is survived by his beloved wife and caregiver, Anne (Glynn) Wylie, special niece Christine J. Lee and many extended family relatives living both here and in Ireland.

 

He is predeceased by his two brothers Stewart and George, sister Doris Whitley, sisters-in-law Alma Wylie and Evelyn Saggola and late wife Maureen (nee McOscar) Wylie.

 

Joe graduated from North Catholic HS in 1946 and Drexel Night College after serving in the Korean War with the 43rd Inf. Division.

 

An active member of AIEE/IEEE Engineering Society, Joe earned a Penn. P.E. license in 1980. He traveled extensively in his 25-year career at ITE/Brown Boveri as Transit Marketing Manager. Later at Day & Zimmerman, Inc., he was the Elect Design Engineer for the new Buffalo Light Rail Rapid Transit System. Joe retired from SEPTA’s E&C Div. as project manager on  Jul 1, 1997.

 

Unforgettable was Joe’s marriage to Anne on May 14, 1988 at Saint Philip Neri RC Church and subsequent anniversaries celebrated privately at The Jefferson House then The William Penn Inn. They enjoyed vacation trips to Cape May, N.J. and Sunset Beach with their pet dogs, Scotty and Coady.

 

He visited Anne’s relatives in Galway County, Ireland, and Our Lady of Knock’s Marian Shrine in Mayo County on each trip. Joe also enjoyed writing opinion letters to local newspapers.


Joe's Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Mar 7 at 11:00 AM at Saint Philip Neri Church 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, Mar 7 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church before the Funeral Mass


Joseph's Interment will follow Mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave., Philadelphia


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the above church's school scholarship fund.
