Obituary of Carl E. Wendler

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carl E. Wendler, 88, of Blue Bell, passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2020 at his residence. Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 22nd 1931, Carl was a life-long resident of the suburban Philadelphia area, and enjoyed traveling both locally and internationally in search of the perfect fishing spot. Carl is preceded in death by his parents (Carl and Sarah) and brother (Walt). Carl was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of a proud family, which includes his loving wife of 64 years, Martha "Peg" Wendler and children, Jeanine Stever (Jamie) and Carl J. Wendler (Charlene). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Ryan Wendler, Nikole (Jeff) Kenney, Maddie (Jeff) Liberatore, Ali Stever, and great-grandchildren, Jameson and Wynne Kenney. Carl grew up in Roxborough, PA, where he and his future wife, Peg, met in kindergarten and remained classmates until they graduated high school in 1950, and then married in 1955. After graduating from high school, Carl enlisted in the United States Army and served during and after the Korean War; he was frequently stationed near the 38th parallel. Once he returned from Korea, Carl remained close to the Philadelphia area, working alongside his father, "Pop" at Budd Co. of Philadelphia, National Label in Lafayette Hill, PA and Standard Press Steel in Jenkintown, PA. Additionally, Carl participated in various activities at St. Peter's Lutheran Church--he was heavily involved in the Boar's Head production and served as an usher as well. Another one of Carl's passions was baseball and basketball; he was long-time Whitemarsh Little League Coach and loved watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Villanova basketball team. Lastly, Carl enjoyed the outdoors most when he was fishing along the Outer Banks, NC or in Strathmere, NJ. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Silver Springs Martin Luther School, 512 Township Line Rd. Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.
