Obituary of Ellwood F. Jones

Ellwood Franklin Jones, Jr, 89, died at the Hill at Whitemarsh on October 16, 2019.

 

The son of Flora and Ellwood Jones, he grew up in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. He graduated from Germantown Academy and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and earned an MBA from Temple University. He served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Eustis, VA. He was elected to Germantown Academy’s Academy Club.

 

He joined the Young Republicans while at Penn and remained active in the GOP his entire life. He was president of the Republican Club of Springfield Township and later a Republican Committeeman in WhitemarshTownship. He was elected Municipal Chairman and Area Leader. He also served on the Whitemarsh Township Planning Commission. He was a member of both the Sons of the Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution. He and his wife have lived at the Hill at Whitemarsh for the past 11 years.

 

A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Ft. Washington on October 30, 11:00. Burial at West Laurel Cemetery will be private. Memorial donations may be made to The American Anglican Council, 2296 Henderson Mill Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30345.

 

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Henderson Jones, a son, Ellwood III, and a daughter, Cynthia Scovel.
