Herbert "Herb" Anthony Morris Jr., 81, passed away July 26, 2016 after a short hospitalization at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia PA. Herb was born on May 1, 1935 in the Bronx, NY where he lived until his family moved to Bedford Hills, NY in West Chester County. Herb graduated from Bedford Hills High School. He attended Lafayette College and received his Associates Degree in Accounting under the GI Bill from West Chester County Community College. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. For most of his career Herb was involved in Urban Renewal and Housing Development, first in New York and later owning his own business. In the latter part of his life he became involved in a number of programs related to community service. Most recently, Herb was the Director of the Fatherhood Empowerment Center at the Montgomery County Community Action Development Commission (CADCOM) in Norristown, PA. Herb's passion, besides his family and his work, was his love of golf. He was an avid golfer and for many years was a member of the Del Val Golf Club, the Philadelphia/New Jersey Chapter of Pro-Duffers USA. The Del Val Golf Club is one of the oldest African American Golf Clubs in the United States. He served as their President in recent years. Herb will be remembered as a mentor, a friend and a father figure to many. He had a dynamic presence with a quick and biting wit and a hearty laugh. He was a devoted family man and a loving husband. He is survived by his wife, Nettie, sons Anthony Scott (Cheryl), Michael Kevin, Gary Steven (Nicole), his daughters Sheree Lynn, Michele Carole (James) and a stepson Darryl Frank Elliott (Verdell). He was pre-deceased by his stepdaughter Norma J. Drye. Herb had 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Herb was greatly loved and will be sincerely missed by all who knew him. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday August 6 at 11 AM (visitation w/family at 10 AM) at Lownes Funeral Home 659 Germantown Pike Lafayette Hill, PA followed by a luncheon at Sunnybrook Golf Club 398 Stenton Avenue?Plymouth Meeting, PA (no denim please). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.
