Elwood Joseph Spare, age 96, of Lafayette Hill died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at home in Lafayette Hill. He was born September 20, 1918 in Plymouth Meeting, PA.. He is the son of the late Joseph M. and the late Anna (Guertler) Spare. He was employed by Honeywell Corp. Phila. as a Supervisor. Joe, aka The Mayor , aka The Senator, was a graduate of the former Barren Hill Elementary School and Springfield High School. He was a long time active member of Saint Peter's Lutheran Church and was a member of their choir for over 75 years. He also was a former church Council member and was a former president of the Community Elders Group associated with the church and their bowling league . Joe was also a proud member of the Patriotic Sons of America, he was a member of the Masonic Fritz Lodge # 308 along with the Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the American Legion. Joe served our Country during World War Two in the US Army and was a member of the Yard Birds Singing group which sang to the troops. He was an avid golfer and was a charter member of the Turtle Club. Joe was a member of the Goldenaires Commedy and Musical Group that would often appear at various local functions. In 2004 Joe was awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award from Whitemarsh Twp. Many people will miss his one liner jokes and his quick wit even up to the end. He will be sorely missed by his loving family, his many friends along with community. He is survived by his wife: Florence (Missimer) Spare and two daughters: Jo Anne S. Carver (Michael) of Beckley, WV, Sally A. Jackson (Dennis) of Chase, MD. 5 Grandchildren- Michael, Stephanie, Thomas , Dennis, Dylan and 7 Great Grandchildren- Grace , Joy , Caleb , Alexander, Elijah , Mikaela and Jordan. The funeral will be held 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 28 at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, 3025 Church Rd., Lafayette Hill, PA. . Burial will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Horsham Calling hours will be Thursday, May 28 from 12:30-1:30pm at church . Memorial donations may be made to the above church. .
